The
experienced,
passionate and dynamic West London composer Jamie Farnell-Warren
(JFW) kindly took time to answer some questions and to discuss Japonica, his latest sonic
creation
that’s
already got my ears salivating!
Described as being a unique,
beautiful musical journey, crafted
through
years spent skill-honing and genre-hopping, Japonica was born out of
a desire to blend the very best movie music with more experimental
rock, to take the listener on a structually unconstricted journey through
manipulated,
twisted
and distorted
organic sounds.
Thanks JFW...
What
inspired the LP
title?
’Into
The Kaleidoscope’ was used because of the ever changing complexity
of the patterns and colours;
I hope our music reflects this.
What
influences your sound above all else?
Creative evolution with structure and sound.
Where
do you draw your inspiration from? Those
who strive to create something unique but brilliant.

Solo... Luke Skywalker!

Pan.

McCartney.

would be your dream collaborator? John
Lennon.

What

many!
I
love
‘Ritual de Lou Habitual’ by Jane's Addiction.
What’s
the best / your favourite
music video? Thriller (Michael Jackson).
Which
rules; the digital age or the vinyl/cassette age? Vinyl.
Which
era would you have been born in ideally? 1960s.
Where’s
the place to be? West London... West is best!
Know
of any upcoming bands that are destined for greatness? Sorry,
I’ve been in the studio for so long, I feel I’ve missed out on
new music.
Were
/ are you aware of your escalating popularity? Not sure that’s
happened yet, but we want to share what we’re doing with as many
people as we can.
Any
career highs or lows you care to share? Composing for a TV film
about Prince last year was a high.
Where
do you most enjoy playing live? To an audience that’s only
there for us.
Do
you enjoy playing live or are you more at home in a studio? Studio.
Where
do you go when it all gets too much? In the studio or for a nice
power-nap!
Where
did you sleep last night? In an octagonal tent!
Is
bedtime more half nine with a half-read paper or more half four with
fully red eyes? Oh, about half way in between.
Wish
you were doing anything else with your time other than music? No
way, nothing comes close!
Any
forthcoming plans for Japonica? Get a nice
dedicated following.
Your
career defining dream moment would/will be what? Headlining
Glastonbury.
How
important do you feel visuals are in relation to music? I think
they can help, but ultimately it’s the music that matters.
How
important are the single / album charts? Not at all important;
they reflect the fodder played on most radio stations.
What
do you do with any ‘you’ time? Run, swim and spend time with
my son.
Are
you unlucky in love and if so, why? I’m lucky!
Where will
you retire to when you're tired of comeback concerts? Ha!

reforming!

your secret vice; what are you a sucker for? Good films.
Are
exercise and diet important to you? Exercise more than diet.
Will
your past come back to haunt you or will karma be kind? Oh,
definitely kind!
What
do you think of the paparazzi? I
love the word paparazzi; it’s far too
good a word to describe those people.
When
you take aim with your peashooter/pellet gun/sniper rifle, who are
you aiming at? Myself
for not being perfect.
Do
you have any tragically unused band names you’d like to use?

work.

In the meantime, you can listen to the first 2 singles
('RESFEBER'
& 'JUST TO PROTECT HER')
